Daily Diary Another extraordinary day for meteorology, both here and in the UK. Nationally, the peak of the hot spell was reached, with a number of stations reporting a maximum of over 40C, the first time in UK recorded history. Here, the day started off very warm, and temperatures rose very quickly to around 29C (just before the 09Z window). However, this early peak was terminated by rain cooled outflow from storms to the SW arriving, accompanied by a layer of smoke at around 3000 ft arriving, potentially from Cornish wildfires, but also maybe from France (or both). Temperatures then rose a little ahead of the rain arriving around lunchtime, which brought the humidity up very high for a time. Skies cleared during mid-afternoon allowing a second peak in temperatures before leading into an evening/overnight with some cloud but also clear spells. Winds were quite variable due to the various features passing through, and a marked pressure fluctuation was noted in tandem with the rain. RoostCam South Timelapse | RoostCam North Timelapse |
