Daily Diary A clear start but quickly clouded over as cold fronts arrived from the north, bringing cloud and a little bit of rain. Cloud cleared to the south during the afternoon, leaving sunny spells, in an increasingly dry and cold Arctic Maritime flow. Brisk NW'ly surface winds, and rather cold despite the sunshine. Some remarkably low dew points (below -10) reported widely across England, and a very low 1000-500hPa thickness evident on the 00Z ascent at Lerwick (505.1 dam), directly beneath the Arctic cold pool.
