An area of rain spread in from the E, becoming persistent and intense across the Midlands and NE England in particular. This was the first of a two day even which brought significant amounts of rainfall to large parts of the country. Here, it was a rather cloudy but dry day with just a few sunny spells, following the clearance of the rain during the early hours of the morning. Cooler than recent days too, with temperatures nearer average.
