Data courtesy of MetOffice and OGIMET This map uses a combination of data sources to determine the number of consecutive "dry days" (using a user specified threshold of either less than 1.0mm/24h, 0.2mm/24h, or no measured rain at all). Dry spells are only plotted if all observations are present, if there are missing observations the dry spell will be terminated, even if following obs also are dry. For dates before and including 31/12/2020, official quality controlled data from the National Climate Information Centre can be plotted for UK stations, from the OpenMIDAS dataset, should you select this option. Rainfall is typically measured at 08-09Z, and has been "thrown back" to the previous date. For sites in the other locations plotted on this display (Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey, and Isle of Man), either 24 hour totals reported at 06Z (thrown back to previous day), or sum of 00Z, 06Z, 12Z and 18Z 6-hourly rainfall reports will be used. These are not quality controlled and are only available back as far as the year 2000. For dates after 31/12/2020, data from the non-quality controlled SYNOP dataset will be used only. Clicking on a station name opens a graph view for that station, which you can use to analyse the dry spell in more detail, and check to see if there are any missing observations either side of the calculated spell.
