For dates before and including 31/12/2021, official quality controlled data from the National Climate Information Centre (OpenMIDAS) are used. Please note that there are large volumes of data before 1960 which remain undigitised, so data before this should be treated with extra caution.
For dates after 31/12/2021, data from a non-quality controlled SYNOP dataset will be plotted. This only provides 12-hourly maxima, valid 0600 (D) to 1800 (D), and will usually contain fewer stations than the MIDAS dataset.
